A 1902 Funicular Railway

cable car wellington new zealand

One thing that had been highlighted when it came to Wellington, was the over 100 year old funicular railway that runs from the city centre and up into the upland neighbourhoods. With previous cable car experiences being in the good to great range, I thought this could be time well spent. Unfortunately this one was on the other side of the spectrum. Basically nothing but a nice view of the city and harbour from the Kelburn Lookout. Next door is the Cable Car Museum, which I think must be for those particularly interested, and the top entrance to Wellington Botanic Garden. Maybe walking back down through  the park would have been a treat…?

PS! Finding the entrance to the cable car on Cable Car Lane and Lambton Quay can be a bit tricky. I went past several times. Cars depart every 10 minutes.

    1. This is wintertime, not like Norway, for sure 😀 The best thing was the view. Besides that you didn’t miss out on anything 😉

Love to hear your comment :)
