Fazer Cafe

fazer cake sandwich cafe helsinki finland

Yep, that Fazer. First of all, I wasn’t really aware the brand is Finnish. Second, I didn’t know it all started with Karl Fazer opening a French-Russian cafe in Helsinki, Finland, in 1891. This I learned when I spotted the place on my way to the hotel. Well, not the original one. But one of the many branches scattered around town. I was lucky to have one on the same block as the hotel, so I popped by a couple of times. And since it was a bit off the busiest areas, it was not as full as the others I passed by on my walks. This was probably one of the smaller ones I saw, but their selection was still adequate. Both lunch items and cakes. And Fazer products for sale. I got an open face shrimp sandwich (very Nordic), homemade smoothie, semla with almond filling, and complimentary Fazer chocolate 🙂 They also have the Finnish rice pie. All in stylish surroundings!
