Fazer Cafe

fazer cake sandwich cafe helsinki finland

Yep, that Fazer. First of all, I wasn’t really aware the brand is Finnish. Second, I didn’t know it all started with Karl Fazer opening a French-Russian cafe in Helsinki, Finland, in 1891. This I learned when I spotted the place on my way to the hotel. Well, not the original one. But one of the many branches scattered around town. I was lucky to have one on the same block as the hotel, Fazer Cafe Kaisaniemi, so I popped by a couple of times. And since it was a bit off the busiest areas, it was not as full as the others, I passed by on my walks. This was probably one of the smaller ones I saw, but their selection was still adequate. Both lunch items and cakes. And Fazer products for sale. Might be smart to go early in the day, to get things as fresh as possible. I got an open face shrimp sandwich (very Nordic), homemade smoothie, semla with almond filling (wasn’t all the rave), and complimentary Fazer chocolate 🙂 They also have the Finnish rice pie. All served in stylish surroundings!
