Oslo City Hall

is city hall oslo norway worth it

I’ve have been to the city hall in Oslo, Norway, on a couple of occasions, but didn’t have the opportunity to a have really good look at it. The inside, I mean. Now it was time. At first glance, it looks old, and outdated. However, given a chance, the details are actually pretty impressive. I love the lamps, the ceilings, the huge murals – one continues onto the ceiling. The frescos depict lots of different scenes, so you can probably spend a good amount of time trying to make it all out. I read the city hall decorations are filled with symbols and secret messages, so it could be quite the treasure hunt 🙂

At the Oslo kulturnatt event a few years back, I was able to climb (all!) the stairs to the roof-top. A chance to enjoy the views, and the carillon playing, up close. Not sure if it is possible on a regular day.

You can join a 45 minute guided tour, from late June through August, or go on a self-guided tour, year round, like we did. We almost had the place to yourselves. Just the way I like it 🙂
