Leadenhall Market, a.k.a. Diagon Alley

First time I heard of Leadenhall Market in London, England, was when I was doing some Harry Potter filming locations research. When I saw the pics of the place, I knew I had to stop by, next time I was in town. Dating back to 1321, originally it was a (meat) market, but now it is more of an exclusive looking shopping arcade. Boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bars. Not too many, so don’t think you’ll get all of your (Christmas) shopping done. Primarily, come for the architecture, and the eateries. Leadenhall Market is stunning! And even more so, when being decorated for the festive season.

As for the Harry Potter connection, this is where the Diagon Alley scene from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was filmed. The blue facade of the shop at Bull’s Head Passage, which was used as the entrance to The Leaky Cauldron, looks to have been painted white.

Leadenhall Market is located in the City (of London). Monument tube station is the closest, a 5 minutes walk away.

The Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 3/4, King’s Cross Station

As I was on my way to lunch at Piebury Corner, getting off at King’s Cross, I figured I’d stop by the Harry Potter shop, and I definitely wasn’t the only one 😀 The line for getting your photo taken with the trolley going into the brick wall, was loooong. The shop was brimful and had a queue as well. No wonder, as this was in December.
