I am usually not picky, when it comes to places to call home while travelling. I just need it to be clean, safe, centrally located, and preferably at a reasonable cost. However, Cracow Old Town Guest House was about to make me reconsider my stance…
- The best thing about the place, is its location. Placed in the old town, just a block and a half away from Florianska Street, and a couple of minutes walk to the main square. Same goes for the train station. About 5 minutes away. If you don’t find the underpass, it will double the time. There is a pub next door. I stayed on top floor, so no noise issues.
- I have felt more safe at other places… The hotel is on a dark side street. The door frame of the front gate was about come away from the wall. One yank might have been enough. On my first evening, the stairwell had no light, pitch black, so I had to use my cell phone to be able to see anything. The hotel room door was no good either. A regular interior door, which lock had seen better days. It reminded me, I need to bring a door stopper when travelling.
- Had it been cleaned? Most likely, but apparently very quickly. I wiped off jam from the cupboard door, and I aired out the smell of sewer in the bathroom. The rest I realised was not dirt, just very worn out.
- Cost wise, I think you can find something better for the same price. There might have been something happening in town on those days, as flights to and from was sold out the day after my arrival.
What else? I liked the skylight. For once, I did make use of the kitchenette, dishwashing. Lost electricity one morning. Can’t be blamed on the hotel. Heard some construction work elsewhere in the building.
Check-in is at Hotel Elektor, a half a block away. Pick up the key, and get directions. Easy to find the guesthouse. Very helpful staff. Stored my bags both on arrival and departure. Found me a super spa, and suggested a nice place to have brunch. I was also able to use the restrooms, and hang out, while waiting for my evening flight. This hotel looked nice, so maybe an accommodation option.
There are some small grocery stores here and there around town, but a huge supermarket at Galeria Krakowska, the shopping mall close to the train station.
