Tons of Rock

how to get to tons of rock music festival oslo norway

This summer I accidentally ended up at the music festival Tons of Rock, held every year on Ekebergsletta, in Oslo, Norway. It is not my kind of (music) scene, but there have been some major headliners throughout the years, that I would have been interested in seeing. I can’t speak on the acts, the closing one I have never heard of 😀 , Greta Van Fleet, but I can speak a bit on the rest – I was there towards the end of the final day.

The festival area was a lot bigger than I anticipated it to be, even though still a small part only of Ekebergsletta. For the biggest bands, I assume it is packed, but it felt like otherwise there would be some space to move around. There’s three stages in total, one covered by a tent/tarp. Music on two stages at the same time, but not a problem. In addition to tons of rock, tons of food stalls. Lots of tantalizing stuff. You won’t go hungry! A few merch shops as well. Looked to be a predominantly adult audience, in mostly black attire 🙂

Tip: You can actually get a great view of the main stage from outside the festival fence.

How to get there? Ekebergsletta is on a hill outside the city centre. Great views, by the way 🙂 I assume there are shuttle buses running up and down, as I saw people queuing. Travelling on public transportation means buses. Some even did the metro (#1 or #4 towards Bergkrystallen). Go to Ryen metro station, from where you can get on a bus (#23 towards Simensbråten), or walk (more or less uphill, not too steep, for 20-30 minutes).

Alternatively, stay next door, at the camping site Topcamp Ekeberg.
