The Lapa Steps in Rio de Janeiro are popular, and rightfully so. But when that many people congregate at such a small space, it becomes overcrowded in the blink of a second, and a less desirable experience. The way to enjoy this wonderful work of art, is to walk up the 215 steps covered in colorful mosaics. At the top, there is peace and quiet to be had. Luckily, I was staying at a hotel up on the hill, in Santa Theresa, so I just continued past the hoards, and found a desolate spot. Also a convenient shortcut to getting home 🙂 Across from the staircase, there is a street with some shops and cafes, and street art. Sat down, and enjoyed a fruit juice, before I took on the crowd.
Explaining how to get there is not an easy task. You just have to find it on the map, and follow. It is stuck in between buildings in a residential area.
PS! There is something equivalent to this in the Loma San Jeronimo neighbourhood of Asuncion, Paraguay.
