Fruene på torget in Finnsnes, Northern Norway, is a throwback to the past. The cafe is dressed in vintage furnishings from, more or less, top to bottom. Even the plates look like what my grandmother used 50 years ago. The place has been around for a long time, but I always forget about it. It’s located on the town square, so it’s right there, but I just keep passing it by. The outside is not an attention grabber, so maybe that’s why. However, from now on, I will try to visit more, because the cakes are tasty, and homemade. Expensive, yes, but if you’re there now and again, it’s doable. One suggestion though, which I have for many cafes, improve the tea on offer. Not store bought bags, but leaves. It won’t take much extra effort, but it will step up things. They have a quiz night once a week, which I’ve been wanting to join, and now I see the serve lunch as well.
Update: Went there for lunch. Not very impressive. Stick with the cakes. And it just hit me, the place has a feeling of having too much space on its hands, when not full.
