The old town of San Juan, Puerto Rico, was my first meeting with the Caribbean. The first time I strolled narrow streets lined with the brightly coloured houses the area is known for. I enjoyed it, but as it was on a Sunday, there wasn’t much else happening. Must be the first time I’ve found it boring having a place to myself 😀 A few shops were open, mostly those kinds which cater to tourists. Had a look at La Fortaleza, the governor’s office and residence, and passed by El Morro, which looked impressive, at least from the outside. I reckon things must have changed since I visited. I assume it has become bigger and busier, but if that helps, I’m not sure about. San Juan is a cruise ship port after all, and its old town its number 1 attraction. When a place is small, and lacking a “heart”, I don’t know if getting bigger will help. I found other neighbourhoods with a more local vibe.
