Río Camuy Cave Park

worth it camuy cave puerto rico

The Rio Camuy caverns on Puerto Rico make up one of the largest cave networks in the world. It stretches out over 10 miles, with caves, caverns, underground rivers, waterfalls, pools, canyons, sinkholes, stalagmites, and stalactites. Apparently a fraction only has been explored. Sounds interesting, right? Well… Honestly, I don’t remember much, just that I wasn’t impressed. Coolest was the mini-train ride through lush forest, down to the Cueva Clara entrance. The rest of the tour was just big caves with some pools, stalagmites, and stalactites. Unless they have opened up more exciting parts in recent years, spend time and money elsewhere.

I read there’s a visitor center, picnic areas, souvenir shops, food vendors, and an exhibition hall. Must have come the years after my visit. I just remember us sitting in a room, that I guess could be named a visitors centre, waiting for the tour to start. It also says reservations are required. Our driver/guide handled it all. We just got handed over tickets he got at the ticket desk, so have no idea.

I visited the cave park on a day trip, with a tour company I can’t remember the name of. Sorry! A SUV with three tourists and a guide. Perfect!
