For me, Les Chiens du Guet in Saint-Malo, on the Brittany coast of France, was good for one night in town. Had I been there longer, I would have needed something else. Though the hotel room had a shower and sink, the toilet was a shared one. The restroom out in the hallway, was nice and clean, but still want my own for longer stays. Considering that the room is for two, it is small, and the washroom has no door. You probably want to be very well acquainted with your travel companion 😀 The location is kind of unbeatable though. It is next door to the lovely ramparts, and sandy beaches below. I arrived by taxi, from the ferry terminal, but walking into the centre of town took a few minutes only. Also walking to the bus stop outside the town walls, from where you get the bus to the train station, is doable. Other positives. Helpful, English speaking hostess. Convenient for those of us who don’t know a tad French 🙂 The hotel has 10 rooms only. I like small hotels. Feels more approachable. If memory serves me right, I spotted a fridge on the landing. Probably for common use. The restaurant looked really nice! Sad I didn’t get to try it. Didn’t have the appearance of a typical hotel restaurant, more like a regular one, if you know what I mean 🙂
PS! Checking in late in the evening, means using an access code to enter the premises. Got the details well in advance, and proved not to be a problem. Inside, on the table, an envelope with keys. And FYI, no elevators.
