As an avid tea drinker, when I heard the mentioning of a tea plantation existing on Sao Miguel, Azores, I was all in! Cha Porto Formoso didn’t appear to be a big place, but instead very cute and quiet. Which might be due to the season, I visited in the fall. The colours, the size, adorable. Great views too. Loved it! After entering through the gates, you walk down an alley lined with camo trees 😀 , ending up at a small shop, the place for tea tasting, and shopping. The tea factory produces four different blends of black tea. A mild one, a medium one, a rich one, and the Azores Home Blend. The latter is how the locals drink it, a mix of all the others. When in the Azores, do as the Azoreans! Also, I did the mild brew at the tea tasting, and it was too gentle. Now you have visited the only tea plantation in Europe 🙂
This was a stop on a tour of the east side of the island, with Sao Miguel Azores Tours. Highly recommended company! Roberto will tailor to your needs.
