After exploring the nooks and crannies of the cave monastery in Kyiv, Ukraine, and in need of dinner, my friend got the brilliant idea: Let’s go to the food market! Starving, I had no objection. Little did I know what I had agreed to. And had I known, I would not have disagreed. Kyiv Food Market is just sublime! From the interior to the food. A stylish food hall with lots of mouthwatering offerings. With a touch of live music. After finally securing two seats at the communal tables, we dived into the many vendors, only to realise menus in English were hard to come by, some dishes were sold out, and some restaurants had long waiting times. In other words, very popular, come early. Searching high and low for something that fit our mood and the restaurant’s inventory, we spotted Chicken Kyiv. My Ukrainian friend said I had to try it, and I couldn’t have made a better choice – sooo delicious!! The mud pie like thing I had for dessert, not to my taste, but then I don’t like mud pie…
Fast forward to the next day, when I had arrived at my next stop in Ukraine, Odesa. As soon as I spotted the name “Odesa Food Market” on the map, I knew where I was having lunch. The same stylish interior as in Kyiv, but a lot less busier. At this time of the day, it was no problem finding a seat. Lucky for me, being without my local friend, menus were also in English. Needless to say, I was enjoying myself, yet again.
Odesa Food Market is just a block away from the main street, Derybasivska Street. Kyiv Food Market, I have no idea where is 😀 At least not in Podil, the old town, or close to Khreshchatyk and Independence Square. Take an Uber.
