If you’re visiting the Iguazu Falls, you will come across this city, as it is one of three places to stay in the tri-border area. Foz do Iguacu in Brazil, Ciudad del Este in Paraguay, and Puerto Iguazu in Argentina. There is a point at which all three borders meet, where you can go for a photo op. I never made it there. When choosing where to stay, Ciudad del Este was quickly ruled out. Described as an uninteresting, cheap shopping destination for Brazilians. Puerto Iguazu sounded more to my liking – peaceful frontier vibe. Arriving from Asuncion in Paraguay by bus, and later travelling to Rio de Janeiro, it was less hassle to stay in Foz do Iguacu. “Foz” is the largest and most developed out of the three towns, and one of the largest cities in Southern Brazil. However once there, big is not the first that comes to mind. Because this is a quiet, little place, with not much happening. A main street and a couple of the side streets are where you find shops, restaurants, and bars, and not many of them. Apparently there are some more outside the city centre, and getting there might be easy as local buses are cheap and painless to navigate. You can also catch the bus going to the airport, and flying in/out you’ll get to experience the falls from above.
