When I started out on my excursion to the Asuncion neighbourhood in Paraguay, I quickly realised that the area was a bit off the map I had. In reality that meant I kind of had no idea where I was going, more a general notion of which direction I was heading in. It became a longer walk than I had foreseen. At one point I was about to give up. Very happy when I finally spotted the Welcome to Loma San Jeronimo sign. From here on, I had a good time! Walking down narrow alleys and along wider roads, lined with colourful houses. A maze showcasing vibrant hues, street art, both murals and sculptures, and a few businesses. A grocery store, where I decided to stock up, leaving some guaranis. I also stumbled upon what appeared to be a bakery, and a cafe/restaurant. They’ve even squeezed in a football arena. However the loveliness is easily switched out with less “glitzier” spots. Being a person that wanders aimlessly, I, of course, soon discovered the back alleys. Not sure I was “allowed” into what seemed like more private areas, I met a man who invited me in, with a smile and a gesture. After turning a couple of corners, I concluded this might not be the best idea, neither politely nor safety wise. Back on the main streets I continued to enjoy my surroundings, in total solitude 🙂 , and on my way back to the “entrance” I came across the most adorable staircase. Maybe a take on, or inspired by, the Selaron Steps in Rio de Janeiro.
