When I travel I usually stay at the “cheapest” places I can find. Cheap in the sense that what matters are location, safety and cleanliness, along with cost. This fall when my travels meant vacationing domestically for very short periods of time only, I figured I wanted the best, meaning fancier accommodations. Now I am getting, dangerously, accustomed to nicer things in life 😀 It’s nice to stay at nice places 🙂 Two of the hotels I’ve stayed at are of the Nordic Choice Hotels chain, Comfort Hotels. Previously in Kristiansand, and now Trondheim. I’ve also done their hotel in Gothenburg. And I am really, really liking them. A common denominator is design. At some places the rooms have something extra, and the rest of the hotel is more anonymous, and vice versa. My Trondheim stay is so far my favourite. I love the big common room(s), and the high ceiling, giving it a sense of wide open space. The interior design – the details, and the different seating arrangements. Making it a great place to wait for the night train to Bodø 🙂 It appeared to be popular among non-guests as well. A feature I have not spotted at any of the other two hotels, is the gaming corner, set up with TV, chairs, and gaming console. At breakfast you are met by staff offering shots of smoothie, and warm chocolate buns. In addition to the enticing buffet. And I always like the possibility of donating clothes. On the “con” side, my room was nice, but nothing extraordinary.
Comfort Hotel in Trondheim is located close to the river, and in the area where you get the best shots of the colourful wooden dock houses lining the waterways. It’s not far to walk, even though it doesn’t lie in the busiest part of the city.
PS! Make sure you are not charged twice. Upon check-in they wanted me to pay the room rate in addition to an agreed upon early check-in fee of 100 NOK (2020). When I told them I was sure I’d already paid online, they re-checked, and apologised for their mistake.
