Who knew this was a family business that opened in 1906? Not me, when I stepped inside. I recognised it only to be so popular I barely found a vacant table. But when I finally spotted one, the woman sanitising it (#COVID), said it is her favourite seat in the cafe. Even though Trygstad Bakery and Pastry Shop is one of the oldest businesses in Røros, and moved into its current location in 1916, there’s not much interior wise that points in this regard. So there I was unbeknownst enjoying my tea, salty caramel macaron (recommended by staff – good advice!), and a bar of kransekake – childhood favourite 🙂 A Danish invention made of almonds, sugar, and egg whites. Later I would become aware of the fact that I missed out on tasting pjalt, a pancake looking thing characteristic of Røros. You’re hereby reminded 🙂
