Ha ha, I’ll admit it, I was very suspicious when my friends suggested we’d have pizza at a bakery. At what I knew to be a chain-branded bread and buns bakery, W.B. Samson, in Oslo. Turned out I had nothing to worry about 😀 Initially it does look like a bakery, maybe a bit fancier interior wise. Some time during the late afternoon the lights are turned down, creating more of a restaurant atmosphere. And the food – the stone oven baked pizza was delicious! Fennel salami and white pizza sauce. For once I ordered white pizza myself, instead of sampling my friends’ 😀 This Samson also has license to serve beer and wine, and offers antipasti and snacks in addition to regular baked goods. No doubt this made for a great after work evening out.
Not all Samson bakeries offer this, but the one at Sæter does. Visiting Oslo you might want to check to see if there are any pizza serving outlets closer to your accommodation, as Sæter is outside the city centre. However, it is easily reached by tram. Will take 15-20 minutes, through residential neighbourhoods. Can be combined with visiting Ekebergparken. On the same tram line, 10 minutes away only.
Update: Pizza is served at these locations: Gimle, Grünerløkka, Hasle, Sæter, and Bekkestua. The most central ones are the first two on the list. Pizza serving starts at 3 pm on weekdays, and 1 pm on weekends.
