When the opera house was under construction, there was a lot of debate concerning need, cost and expression. Was Italian marble really necessary, instead of Norwegian granite? Slowly, but surely, the discussion faded, and now we have this very cool piece of architecture, both inside and out. It’s a hit with both locals and visitors. There’s always people on the walkable roof, to have a look at the art floating in the sea next to it, the fjord, the Barcode area, now unfortunately concealed by other buildings that have popped up, or enjoying a concert – when the roof is used as a kind of amphitheater. The controversial marble is striking white in sunshine, so remember to wear sunglasses 🙂 The foyer is truly something else as well. Neat interior design. Restaurant/cafe on-site, with both inside and outside seating, the latter with a splendid view of the fjord.
