Most people have this notion about Hollywood, glam and all that. The eponym neighbourhood, however, honestly feels kind of tacky. I visited once upon a time, but from the looks of it, it hasn’t changed much. It’s just gotten bigger, louder, and a bit glitzier. Always a place very much geared towards tourists. T-shirts and souvenirs. Back then, a little gritty, with sex toy shops. Now, tourist attractions, restaurants, and “every” chain store you can mention, line the main drag. My favourites among the clutter were Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, El Capitan Theatre, and, home to the Oscars, the Kodak Theatre, now Dolby Theatre, attached to the Hollywood & Highland entertainment center, which has come a long way. Favourites in that these were iconic buildings and names I’d heard about since forever, and now got to check out. Hollywood Walk of Fame is of course also located here, but I didn’t find it too exciting. Outside Hollywood Boulevard, there aren’t much to see. Stray off, and in some cases you’ll soon find yourself in a quiet back alley where you don’t need to go. I stayed at a hotel just off the strip, on Highland Avenue. I’d rather recommend you do a day trip, as it is all quickly covered.
