Trying to escape the hoards of Christmas gift shoppers that descend upon London in December, I found myself walking over to Brick Lane from the City. And there I got the solitude I was looking for. More or less empty streets, which made the walk from Whitechapel Road up to Bethnal Green Road a very enjoyable one. The neighbourhood appears to be a former industrial area, now filled with cafes, bars, vintage shops, a Sunday market, restaurants, chocolaterias, and a very popular salt beef bagel shop. The line inside Beigel Bake was loooong! Now looking at the goods in the window, I soon realised it was (luckily?) not for me 🙁 – huge portions of salty chunks of meat. What was a lot more up my alley though, was the great street art in the area, especially in and close to Allen Gardens, where you could also spot artists at work. Needless to say, I am very happy I ditched the West End for the East End 🙂

Love when you find a new (to you) area even if it wasn’t in the plan. I love the look of this area – I’ve never been, but too many crowds also drives me crazy. The street art is fab! Cheers from Copenhagen and thanks for sharing with #FarawayFiles.
Me too x 2 🙂
Oh yes, it can get suuuper busy in London dir g Christmas and sometimes the West End can be very stressful with all the extra tourists around. The East End has become a trendy and hip area over the years. It is very nice in the summer as well.
I’ve never been to London in December before. My stress level shot through the roof 😀 I’ve always stayed on the west side, and never explored the east side, but I really liked it!
