When the receptionist at my hotel upon check-in handed me this 10 % off coupon, I wasn’t too enthusiastic. Former experiences have taught me this is usually not a culinary highlight. After walking up and down the main street of El Calafate, Argentina, not finding anything that drew me in, I inquired about this place before heading out again. Yes, it is good, just make sure you go to Casimiro Bigua Parrilla & Asador, and not the Casimiro Bigua that is closer to the hotel, almost next door to the former, which turned out to be named Casimiro Bigua Restaurant & Parrilla Gourmet. After a little back and forth, I was sure I had found the correct one, and entered. With very few guests inside, my hopes did not rocket. Big mistake 🙂 I am very happy to announce that my meal was spot on! Not only was it tasty, but I was able to mix and match, so I could have whichever sides I wanted, mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes, with my schnitzel. Only downside, the service is slow. It took time to order, it took time for the food to arrive, it took time to settle the bill. In other words, you need time 🙂
PS! I ended up doing the Casimiro Bigua Restaurant & Parrilla Gourmet later, due to a newfound friend’s hotel’s recommendation. It was not good… Not the flexibility of the Parrilla & Asador, and the steak I got never reached beyond the level of rare, even though I asked for medium, twice. Too bad, as this was going to be my Argentinian steak experience 🙁
