When I was strolling the (few) streets of Puerto Natales, Chile, on a quiet Sunday early afternoon in need of some fuel, there were not much to choose from. After walking a bit back and forth between my options, I decided on Kawesqar Cafe, which I’ll honestly admit didn’t look like much. However once inside, I got a better impression. The fire pit especially caught my eye. Initially I thought it was for show, but realised later they use it for cooking. Since I wasn’t in dinner mood, and I couldn’t make up my mind about what on the menu I wanted, the waiter guided me towards the taster option, smaller portions of three different dishes – perfect! I got shrimp pil pil, salmon ceviche and crab gratin. Now, after travelling South America for a while I’ve come to a couple of conclusions. What they say is spicy, is not, and I prefer my shrimps deveined, even though I know it’s not unsafe to eat them when they’re not. Their ceviche, and other lemon/lime containing dishes, have way to much of a sour taste for me. The Chilean crab gratin on the other hand – real tasty! For the meat lovers this might be the right place, the huge pile of cuts they brought out to other guests, looked delicious, and I am not much of a red meat eater.
I love cerviche!! I think it’s interesting how countries have a different level of ‘spicy’….#WanderfulWednesday
I love ceviche too! It is interesting, and also how the brain is expecting what one is used to getting of taste from a familiar dish.
This certainly looks delicious! I know they eat a lot of meat in Chile, I believe it’s cattle country? Anyway, I don’t, so good to know there are lots of other options!
Yes, from the look of it Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia is definitely meat eating country. I don’t eat much red meat, so was glad I had options 🙂
Difficult for me to comment on these foods as I don’t eat seafood, but it looks good and I am sure it was a nice dining experience. #WanderfulWednesday
Allergies? Just don’t like? I find myself more and more having seafood over meat, come to think of it 🙂
