Going Local

local off the beaten track restaurant hanga roa easter island chile

This place I ended up going to, with the two Chilenos I was sat together with on the flight to Easter Island (Rapa Nui), when I ran into them on the main street of Hanga Roa. Turned out we had the same plans for the day, so we decided to spend it together. They had found food to be expensive and not good, so they had asked for recommendations, and gotten this one,Ā Tataku Vave. Getting there took a while, as it is located off central Hanga Roa, away from the restaurant row, and we decided to walk over. The endeavour of reaching the restaurant was well worth it, for the waterfront location that offers splendid Pacific Ocean views, and for the simple, but tasty, dish, tuna with sesame seeds and pepper, and mashed potatoes on the side. When you take into consideration that I’m not too keen on neither tuna nor mashed potatoes, and I enjoyed myself, it had to be good šŸ˜€ When we got there, and inquired about the menu, we were told all fish dishes were with tuna that day. Initially I felt a bit less enthusiastic, but concluded it as a good sign, I wouldn’t be getting an “old” salmon, which has stayed in the freezer. Or, come to think of it now, I might have gotten the tuna that didn’t sell earlier that week šŸ˜€ Naah!
