When I was back in the D.C. area for the fourth time, I decided I wanted to stay in Alexandria, Virginia, as I fell in love with its old town on my first visit. Being a popular place to base oneself, hotels aren’t the cheapest. After a little research I found something I could live with. Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria. It is a bit off the main street, King Street, so you need to be willing to walk the walk. It’s 10-15 minutes. I didn’t mind it. A nice stroll through a quiet neighbourhood, or along the Potomac. Since it’s not in the centre of town, there’s not much around for entertainment or food, but two grocery stores a couple of blocks away, and restaurants on site. Otherwise it is a regular 4 star hotel. Near riverside park. Complementary shuttle to Ronald Reagan Airport, which came in handy as there were planned metro works happening, making it a bit easier to get around. And upper floors have a very nice sunset view 🙂

Thanks for the recommendation. We’ve been wanting to explore Alexandria the next time we’re in DC – good to know there’s a brand we like that’s not so pricey. 🙂
You’re gonna love Alexandria! Now it looks like the hotel has been sold, and is closed. Hopefully they will open a new one there.
