First time I visited Alexandria, Virginia, I was pointed in the direction of this place by the tourist information office, when I was looking for a spot to get some breakfast pancakes. Pancakes turned out to be off the menu at that time during the day, so instead I had to “settle” for a sandwich. Oh, boy, what a sandwich! All my favourite bits – thinly sliced beef, onions, mushrooms and melted cheese. I know it looks kind of anaemic, but I promise you the taste is not! If you don’t fancy the same as me, they have plenty of versions to choose from, so I’m pretty sure you’ll find your love too 🙂 Even though the sandwich is the same as last time, there have otherwise been a few changes. Last time Jack was at the grill, and patrons lining the counter. This time a new owner was in place. More of a family-run operation. The daughter told me Jack had sold the place to her mom, but popped in now and again to help, and had taught her how to cook his sandwiches. She also wondered if it tasted the same as I remembered, and I assured her it did 🙂
Jack’s Place is a bit off the main street, King Street, in the old town. Four blocks off, on the corner of Queen Street and North Lee Street. A short walk.
Looks like a Philly Cheesesteak actually! We used to love those when we lived near there. Love when a restaurant is exactly what you remember. #farawayfiles
Yes, it does, not that I’ve had a real one 🙂 But I’d love to!!
Looks delicious. I do love a good sandwich. Thanks for sharing on #farawayfiles
Then you’d like this place. Very low-key, but great food!
