Deciding on where to stay in Panama City, Panama, turned out not to be the easiest choice I’ve come across. Not finding anything in the old town, to my liking and budget, I started looking into options in the El Cangrejo neighbourhood. There, on the other hand, I had plenty, of the same, to choose from. In the end I just had to pick one. Eurostars. It says 5 stars on their website. To some degree I can agree, and considering other aspects, I can’t. Upon entering the hotel, the stylish looking lobby area don’t disappoint. The room neither. It is big. With floor-to-ceiling windows covering the whole wall and providing excellent views! Love those windows! With a big bathroom, where the toilet is separated from the rest of the room by a wall, and the shower is nice and roomy. You can however see that the room is a bit worn. As I happened to descend on Panama in the beginning of November, with it’s several public holidays, most restaurants in the area, and elsewhere, where closed, so dinner had to be had at the hotel on a couple of occasions, and that I wish I didn’t have had to – not impressed… Another downside is the surrounding area – not much around, not much happening. Got a bit more livelier after the holidays, but no. Rooftop pool area is nice, but small. If you want a sun bed, you need to be there early. Superb views though, as anywhere else from the upper floors. There’s a casino on-site as well. Just used it for the ATM. Looked nothing like a 5 star. But I don’t care – I don’t gamble 🙂 All in all, for the price I paid, I’m happy with what I got!
As I arrived late at night, I decided to ask the hotel to arrange airport pick-up. Out of laziness I asked them to drop me off when I departed as well. Two girls I met at the hotel, told me they used Uber, with no issues, so I’d recommend going for that, as the pick-up/drop-off service was a tad expensive, for one person. There’s a metro station close by, so for most of my transportation needs I used the metro, buses and feet.
