I guess with a headline like that, a sushi photo ought to accompany it, but I actually didn’t go for sushi, when I was in a rush to get home, but needed a quick bite for lunch. Walking by Yo! Sushi at Østbanehallen in Oslo, on my way to the metro station, I remembered I had been there once before, which didn’t blow me away, but was willing to give it another shot. It wasn’t that bad last time. And this time is was perfect, almost… Those Furi Furi Fries should have been hot, but the fact that I still ate them, all, proves I found them tasty. To accompany my Japanese style fries coated in sriracha mayo and sprinkled with yuzu furikake, sesame, aonori and smokybonito flakes (according to the menu 🙂 ), I chose Chicken Karaage – crunchy fried chicken marinated in soy and sake served with mayo. I basically went for street food inspired by traditional Japanese flavours, instead of the usual sushi bar way. And I liked it so much I will be back. There’s some other non-sushi items on the menu I’d like to try out. The look of the place might not be the most exciting, the usual conveyer belt is in place, but with a bit of a social setting, I met a Finnish solo female traveller flying off to Bergen 🙂
Yo! Sushi is located in Østbanehallen, an old train station converted into a restaurant and shop complex, right next to the city’s main train station. I’ve spotted one at the airport too, but never tried it. From their website I can see there are several around the world, but most of them located in the UK.
I remember when the first Yo Sushi opened up around the corner from my work in London and it was so exotic! Love Karaage Chicken too! 🙂
Yes, once sushi was exotic 😀 Japanese street food I am not familiar with, so that still kind of intrigues 🙂
Oh those chips look amazing! Thanks for sharing on #farawayfiles
I am picky about chips, so when I can eat them less than hot-hot-hot, then they must be good 😀
It doesn’t look too sushi like but the flavour is what matters. I’d avoid the sriracha mayo on the fries.
Love it spicy 😀
