Hamn i Senja has been around for a long time, since the beginning of the 1600s, but the hotel resort that the old trading station has been turned into, has existed since 1994, burnt down and rebuilt, several times, if my memory serves me correctly. It has become a popular accommodation alternative for visitors, and no wonder, considering the location and scenery, but for us locals it is more a destination for a weekend drive, to have dinner or coffee in nice surroundings, at the hotel restaurant. Last winter they were lucky to welcome another kind of visitor, a walrus stopped by for a break 🙂 I so wanted to go have a look, but never got around to it 🙁
You get to Hamn i Senja by following (county) road 86, from Silsand, the main settlement on Senja. It’ll take about an hour.

Beautiful scenery! I must put Norway on my bucket list.
Yes, you must 😀 And Northern Norway most of all!
This place looks absolutely stunning! I can absolutely see the draw for tourists! And what a nice place for locals to spend an afternoon 🙂
Yes, the years have turned it into a really nice destination for visitors and locals!
Looks beautiful! I wonder why it’s burnt down so many times though?!
It’s really nice! I know there were some rumours/speculations first time it burned down, I was a kid at that time, also remember I visited with my parents while it was being built, and got a tour of the place, but I have no idea what caused the fires.
Great that you have added your home-island, magical Senja in Northern Norway, to your travel menu – it is well worth a visit!
It sure is! Proud to from there 🙂
