Savannah’s River Street

what to see do river street savannah georgia usa

After being let off by the Uber driver in downtown Savannah, Georgia, and not knowing where to start, we headed towards what must be the city’s most famous landmark, River Street. And even though it is touristic in the thousands, it is a nice place to go for a stroll. Along a cobbled street with not-in-use streetcar rails, lined with old, brick cotton warehouses hosting shops, restaurants and bars on one side, and on the other side a waterfront promenade with views of Savannah River and the cargo ships making their, at times narrow, way down the Intracoastal Waterway. River Street might feel a bit off, like separated from the rest of the city, but it is probably due to its low-laying location, accessible down a steep, little bluff, through staircases and alleyways scattered along the street.

  1. This was so great to read as it’s on our list for one of our trips this year on the way down to visit my inlaws in Florida #Mondayescapes

    1. Ah, should have known that beforehand. Would have been right up my travel mate’s alley, and I would have tagged along 🙂

Love to hear your comment :)
