Southern Hospitality

Before coming to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, I had read about saltwater taffy. Not sure what is was, but with the biggest sweet tooth around, I was set on trying it. At The Fudge & Ice Cream Shop in Ocracoke my mission was accomplished. When I approached the shop window, and let the lady of the store in on my errand, she told me to try one first, so I knew whether or not I would like them. I politely declined, and said that was at all not necessary. After picking out the flavours I wanted from the rich assortment in the jar, she refused to accept money for them, and told me they were a gift from her to me! That’s what I would call Southern hospitality – and just one of the many times we’ve encountered it on our road trip.

  1. I am from Nashville, so I know what you mean, about southern hospitality! It’s what I miss most, when I am gone. Also, I LOVE salt water taffy! Thanks for sharing! #TheWeeklyPostcard

  2. Even though there’s no real term for it, I felt the same way meeting both Steffen and Hege on Senja, I thought of Northern hospitality. I was glad to be given advice from them as I ventured alone in the mountains. And I’m glad I would be welcomed back too!

I am from the South (the Carolinas/Florida), so I’m glad you’ve had a wonderful experience! I have only visited the Outer Banks and Charleston once.

    1. I guess you can draw some parallels between the two – when I think about it 🙂 I loved the south!
