The second ferry on our trip down the Outer Banks islands of North Carolina, departed Ocracoke for Cedar Island. A 2 h 40 min ride. At least on this boat the passenger lounge was big enough to be somewhat comfortable. I didn’t have to spend the whole crossing in the car. With the ferry being half full only, it was also room outside on the top deck, which would have been a nice spot to hang out. But as the late afternoon turned into early evening, and the weather was a little bit on the chilly side, spending time inside with a crime novel, turned out to be the best idea 🙂 For this ferry you need tickets. Costs are 15 dollars for the car and 1 dollar for each person (age 5 and older). Tickets can be bought online, by phone or at the port. Reservations are recommended. Happy sailing!
For our road trip we rented a car from Alamo Rent A Car.

We visit the Outer Banks every other year in the off season and always take the Cedar Island – Ocracoke Ferry. I enjoy the ferry and visiting Ocracoke – the Outer Banks are one of my all time favorite places!
Lucky you!! I had such a great time in the Outer Banks! Didn’t get much time to explore Ocracoke, but what we saw, looked adorable. Haven’t been on car ferries like this since I was a kid, so it was real fun 🙂
Ferry rides are always so much fun! We did one once when we drove to England from Germany! The views were amazing! Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard for the final time!
It’s been ages since I’ve been on a car ferry like this, so I thought it was a lot of fun – nostalgia 🙂
