The street Telthusbakken I have passed by now and again on my travels through town. And every time I’ve been charmed by what I’ve seen, in the distance. When the street Damstredet also reached my awareness, I figured I’d finally take time to go have a look at the small, colourful, picturesque wooden houses that line the streets, and have become popular with both locals and visitors. Even though the houses are charming and well-preserved (people still reside in them), I feel I need to warn you – the two streets are very short, just a couple of hundred meters long, meaning you are very quickly done… If I had to choose one over the other though, I’d go for Damstredet – cobblestoned and with more adorable looking houses.
Both streets are centrally located, and not far from each other, but still a bit off in terms of the downtown area. You can easily walk over, but, if you’d rather, I assume there are buses that passes too.ย Damstredet runs between Fredensborgveien and Akersveien, with a staircase from Dops gate, which you can also access it through. Telthusbakken runs betweenย Maridalsveien and Akersveien, also accessed through Kjรฆrlighetsstienย (love trail), which you can enter further down on Maridalsveien.
More on Oslo.
Such lovely colourful houses. I love wandering and taking in the beauty. Thanks for linking up to MondayEscapes
I love wander about as well. Hate it when you have to drive to get around. Walking cities is my thing ๐
So pretty! A shame that they are short streets, but I guess it is a case of quality over quantity!
Thanks for linking up to #MondayEscapes
Yes, wish it was a bit more of it!
It looks like strolling along those streets is a delight. I really like the colorful wooden buildings.

It’s nice, but short ๐
Beautiful photos of these wooden houses. Reminds me a little bit of Jellybean Row in Newfoundland!
Nowadays it feels like there’s always a row of colourful houses in a city ๐
I’d love to visit Oslo! It’s on my bucket list. I’d love to see those beautiful colorful houses ๐
Let me know when you get there ๐
I really didn’t explore Oslo properly last time I visited, I need to visit again soon to see things like this!! #mondayescapes
There is surprisingly a lot of interesting things to see in Oslo – I didn’t know, and I’ve been there a loooong time ๐
When I visited Oslo last year this was high up on my list of places to visit. Such pretty buildings and streets! Loved that city… #MondayEscapes
Then you got around to doing it before me, and I’ve lived here for 20+ years ๐ Glad you had a good time in town!
Oslo is on my list of places to visit the next time we are in Europe! Looks beautiful! #MondayEscapes
Let me know when you get here ๐
I missed visiting this street in Oslo.
You were aware, but just didn’t have time? It is nice, but not the complete end of the world to have missed it ๐
I think I forgot about adding it to my list of places to see. I kept a calendar for the trip and stuck by it. No worries, I am sure to return to Norway again.
Time is usually scarce, so one has to pick and choose. Next time ๐
