The Not So Majestic Niagara Falls

niagara falls ontario canada

When we visited the wonderful Niagara Falls in Canada, we also had to visit the other Niagara Falls, the town which has built itself next to the frothing giant. And what can I say…, it’s like a huge amusement park. Really nothing to write home about… We walked around, got something to eat, and headed back home. For families this might be a great place, but for three single ladies (ok, one is married, but it sounded much better 🙂 ), it was not the most exciting place. No doubt the falls are the best thing about Niagara Falls.

We drove from Cleveland, Ohio, USA just for the day. A 3-4 hours drive, I believe it was. But who’s counting – in the company of good friends a road trip is always something to remember. Just don’t forget your green card!!!

  1. I’ve never been to Niagara Falls, but it’s no surprise that it’s a tourist trap. Still, I always feel extreme disappointment when I encounter this type of thing. We had a similar experience in Sagres in Portugal. Travel is the good and the bad, and sharing the sometimes bad is important too. #farawayfiles

    1. Don’t know from where in town this is. A photo I found on Wikimedia, which I thought reflects well my impression of the town. It was plenty of people around 🙂

  2. I use to live in Fort Erie, I cycled the path most nights, The flower gardens and butterfly conservatory are fantastic. I have been on the Maid of the Mist several times and loved it each time. The Ferris wheel gives good views.Walk across the bridge, My favourite thing is to Hiking down the gorge,
The Laura Secord home Butlers Barracks,Then I you have a vehicle, head to Niagara-on-the-lake for historic building old fashion horse and buggy rides, The Angle Inn pub is great, Wine tasting and lawn bowling. plus shopping. I know so much stuff to do there. A Shame you didn’t enjoy it.

    1. As we were on a day trip from Cleveland there wasn’t much time, so we just did the waterfalls and the town. Afterwards I have become aware of all the things there are to do outside of the town centre, it seems like, and it sounds a lot better. Thanks for all these tips! Maybe I’ll make it to the area again someday 🙂

      1. I understand. I have visited so many places and regretted missed opportunities. you can’t go back in time but going forward, I remember every detail of places I discover now. My past journeys are etched in my memory I don’t share.:)

        1. I know! When you have limited time, as I usually do, as I book everything ahead, you always have to prioritise what is most important, and you will always discover things you want to do when you finally get there, and after you have left. Now I have started to add an extra day to accommodate surprises 🙂

          1. Good plan. I have plan book, I now gather info on a place and have it on hand so when I get to my destination, I know what I want to see and do. I am not wasting precious time anymore. or finding out about an awesome place I didn’t see because I didn’t know about it.
