After a refreshing walk in the cold, but sunny, Saturday weather, we headed inside for a lunch-turned-into-dinner at Den Gamle Major in Oslo. Why this 1921 gastropub is called the old major, I have no idea, but the decor surely fits the bill. And that’s the reason why I’ve included this place, because I think visitors, like me, will find it charming and a nice spot to sit for a while. What I didn’t get a photo of, is the restroom door, which is hidden in a wall covering bookshelf. You just have to find the right set of books to push 🙂 Food wise it is nothing remarkable, it’s average. The root veggie chips we loved! They state they have a wide selection of beer and whisky. Not much of a drinker, so I’ll have to take their word for it. Last time I was here, it was summer and we sat at the very few tables they have outside by the curb, and somehow we missed the robbery going on in the bank across the street/junction – we checked Twitter to figure out what was happening, when we saw the police cars arrive 😀
This place is located in Majorstua, which is a neighbourhood outside the city centre itself. Very easily reached by public transportation, like an extra stop on the metro.
PS! My friends wanted to pictured in the blog post, so here they are 😀
