A Budget Hotel in the Jungle

interior hotel room iquitos amazon rainforest peru

With Iquitos being the jump-off point for my Amazon Rainforest adventure, I stayed at Amazon Apart Hotel twice, both before and after I had ventured deep into the jungle and faced the creatures that call the dense forest their home. On both occasions I was happy to call this my home. Must admit I was a bit sceptical when I booked the place. For some reason I thought it looked too good to be true. Much to my pleasure it was just as advertised. Only downside I would say is breakfast. Well, not a big deal, just me nitpicking. It could have been a bit more exciting, but I left full. The Amazon Apart also has a swimming pool. Since I visited during the winter, jumping in was not too tempting 🙂

As I many times do, I booked airport pick-up through the hotel. After stepping out of the airport terminal, into the flock of mototaxi drivers hoping to get hired, I waited for a bit before the man from the hotel showed up. He told me we had to wait for a minibus to come pick us up. But with the mototaxi drivers constantly nagging him about getting to take us to the hotel, he caved in. Meaning I was handed over to one of them, and off we went, on a bumpy dirt road through back alleys. What to do? Hold on to my huge suitcase, backpack and life. And laugh when driver looked over his shoulder to see if I was still there. Welcome to the jungle!

    1. I never expected such a big town in the middle of the jungle either. Was very happy with my choice 🙂

  1. This budget hotel seems quite clean and comfortable. I wouldn’t need anything more when I travel, but you don’t always get nice rooms like this in cheap hotels. #TheWeeklyPostcard

    1. I too thought it too good to be true, but it is 🙂 I am not too high maintenance when I am travelling 🙂

  2. The hotel looks nice and glad to hear it was affordable. I still need to visit Peru. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.
