What a Park!

lake boat monument retiro park madrid spain

Buen Retiro Park is such a wonderful and decorative green lung in the centre of Madrid. It is huge, with so many fanciful features. You can spend several hours. It is basically one of the best city parks I have come across. I just love the expression made up by sculptures, statues, follies, gardens, lakes, ponds and more, spread throughout the place. And if you’re more into not just looking at beautiful structures, there’s  exhibitions, entertainment options for both children and adults, street artists, and, the very popular, rowing boats for hire. The latter I wanted to do, but didn’t get quite comfortable with the idea of me by myself in a small boat on the lake. One of the few times I’ve missed a travel buddy 🙂

    1. Exactly! I was very happy to be there off-season, so had I park, nearly, all to myself 🙂

  1. It looks beautiful! I’m with you though, I would NOT be brave enough to row a boat by myself. I need someone to make sure I don’t fall in!

    1. Haha, that would have been quite the sight 😀 Really liked the park, and a trip out on the lake would have been fun.

  2. I really like this place when I visited Madrid. It was a little cloudy when I got there but then the clouds cleared up and we had a great time. I would like to go back to Madrid!

    1. I think it must be one of my favourite city parks, come to think of it. Liked Madrid a lot!

  3. Visiting this park is definitely on my to-do list for Madrid! Looks so pretty! A shame you didnt have a travel buddy with you! #WanderfulWednesday
