Street Food Oslo Style

street food restaurant oslo norway

I had heard both good and not so good things about this place before we decided to give it a go. It is a really cool concept, and I very much hoped it would be a success. Sometimes wishes are fulfilled, sometimes they’re not. This unfortunately turned out to be a case of the latter. Vippa is a street food market, where the stalls are placed inside an old industrial space, with seating both inside and outside. If you’re lucky to find a vacant table at the small outside seating area, you’ll get a waterfront setting as the restaurant is located at the harbour. And with the Oslo harbour being quite stretched out, it pays to ask for direction. It is placed a bit off. With all this being to my taste, what did not go down well was the food. From all the different options I chose to go for a duck dish. The stall had put their three dishes on display, making it easier for them, and us too. The food looked really good, and I decided on pulled duck and french fries. Sadly what I got can’t in any way be compared to what was on display. And to make matter worse, it was kind of tasteless. A real bummer! My friends went with Syrian food from the Aleppo stall. They said it tasted good, but I must admit it looked pretty pale. One thing that might be fun to try is Tøyen-Cola, a locally produced coke drink – which reminds me, I should give it a go too 🙂

    1. That’s what I’m thinking, trying another stall. But if that one is bad too, there’s no third try… Cool place!

  1. Oooh this food hall is RIGHT up my alley. I had to double check this was in Oslo because it looks JUST like one that I went to in Copenhagen. It’s called “Paper Island” and I think if you liked the food hall in Oslo you’d also love that one in Copenhagen!

    1. I haven’t been to Papirøen (never made it when I visited), but it doesn’t surprise me if they look the same – we are good at copying things… 😀

  2. What a bummer! It is so dissapointing when something like this happens. Hey, but you take the chance to try something new. The risk pays sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t.

    1. I’d rather try new places, and miss now and again, than going to the same old places over and over again. Stopped by last week, and the stalls we got food from were gone…

  3. So much potential, so little substance. Sad! I hate it when the food experience isn’t what you hope it would be. I always feel like I’ve wasted my calories for the day when I don’t enjoy my meal. I know that seems extreme, but that’s how it feels, lol.

    1. Yes, it sure is! Then I have to go to Helsinki 😀 Which places did you do in London?

    1. Which street food markets did you visit in Scandi? Can’t say I have done or know many of them… Never made it to Papirøen in Copenhagen. Did Feskekörka in Gothenberg last weekend.

Love to hear your comment :)
