Arctic Cathedral

arctic cathedral tromso norway

The Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø is a small one of its kind. But it is well worth a visit, I think, my local friend is not so enthusiastic about it 🙂 First there is the unusual shape of the church, and then there is the interior – I like the chandeliers, the stained glass and the floor to ceiling windows facing the city. The size of the place makes for a quick visit, so the entrance fee of NOK 50 (2017) might be up for debate… – I didn’t mind it…

The Arctic Cathedral is located outside the city centre, on the other side of the strait. Several buses leave downtown and pass a bus stop on the road just below the church. Otherwise there’s always walking, across the bridge.

  1. It does have a unique design and I bet the stained glass is impressive. Will keep it in mind when I make it to Norway. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.

  2. The Cathedral looks really interesting, but I’m not quite sure if I would pay the fee.

    1. I know. I got a bit baffled when they asked for it, but since I was there for the church only, I decided to go for it.

  3. Hrmm, I do like visiting unique architectural buildings but I have a hard time paying to enter a church! Would REALLY have to be worth it for me! Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard!

    1. I’ve paid to go into a lot of churches, so I didn’t think too much about it, just that it was a tad high.

  4. I think $6US is a bit of a steep entrance fee. But I suppose it goes towards cathedral maintenance and maybe for some church programs as well. I like how minimalist it is. #TheWeeklyPostcard
