The Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø is a small one of its kind. But it is well worth a visit, I think, my local friend is not so enthusiastic about it 🙂 First there is the unusual shape of the church, and then there is the interior – I like the chandeliers, the stained glass and the floor to ceiling windows facing the city. The size of the place makes for a quick visit, so the entrance fee of NOK 50 (2017) might be up for debate… – I didn’t mind it…
The Arctic Cathedral is located outside the city centre, on the other side of the strait. Several buses leave downtown and pass a bus stop on the road just below the church. Otherwise there’s always walking, across the bridge.

It seems like a charming little church! But even without the entrance fee, can’t say it would be at the top of our To Do list. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard!
Hopefully you make it to Tromsø, still!
It does have a unique design and I bet the stained glass is impressive. Will keep it in mind when I make it to Norway. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.
Yes, the shape is nothing I’ve seen before on a church. I liked it all 🙂
The Cathedral looks really interesting, but I’m not quite sure if I would pay the fee.

I know. I got a bit baffled when they asked for it, but since I was there for the church only, I decided to go for it.
Hrmm, I do like visiting unique architectural buildings but I have a hard time paying to enter a church! Would REALLY have to be worth it for me! Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard!
I’ve paid to go into a lot of churches, so I didn’t think too much about it, just that it was a tad high.
I think $6US is a bit of a steep entrance fee. But I suppose it goes towards cathedral maintenance and maybe for some church programs as well. I like how minimalist it is. #TheWeeklyPostcard
This is Norway 😉 I liked it too, so I was able to “forget” about the fee.
They collect an entrance fee? Is it an active cathedral?
Yes, they do, and, yes, it is 🙂 My friend who lives in Tromsø thinks the fee is too high, and this time of the year it is open 3 hrs a day only.
But is it an active Cathedral or simply a tourist attraction?
It’s an active one.
Aaargh! Does this apply to locals too who use it for services?
I imagine not during services.
Got it. That might be the trick to get in free. LOL
Yes, but I don’t think they have service every day, and you might not want to be there for an hour.
Heheh… it was a nice try we guess…
Ha ha 😀
