My Cape Town

exploring city bowl cape town south africa

As I was staying in a guesthouse on Kloof Nek Road, my playground became the areas around Long Street, Kloof Street and Kloof Nek Road. And what amazing places! So vibrant and full of character. Some buildings might not look very interesting, definitely not all of them – some are stunning, but if you decide to pop in you’ll find top-notch restaurants, stylish cafes and small shops selling everything from African crafts to South African fashion brands. I found a lot to take home 🙂 This is in the City Bowl, and far from the beach. We did pick up some people from a hotel at the beach for one of our tours, at Sea Point I think it was, and I was so happy I was not staying there. Who needs fancy hotels and apartment buildings as their neighbours?? City Bowl feels so much more authentic and alive. Security wise I was told not to walk alone after dark on Long Street. During the day I had no trouble at all. Love this area!

    1. I LOVED IT!! Can’t stress how much. I was so sad to leave. Since I stayed in the area (upper part) I was mostly here after getting back from whatever I had been doing that day, the area itself has a lot to do as well, but from what I could see going around town this was the best neighbourhood, what suited me and my personality the best.

  1. When I read your post, I was like Kloof Street sounds so familiar! And that’s because we stayed not too far from it lol. We stayed in the Gardens area and we walked down Kloof to Bo-Kaap! Cape Town is such a great city!!

    1. I love Cape Town! Was so sad when I had to leave my Gardens home, I stayed on Kloof Nek 🙂 Don’t know how many times I walked up and down Long Street and Kloof Street 🙂

  2. The architecture of Cape Town looks lovely. I can now see where I think New Orleans drew some of its inspiration from! Beautiful photographs!!

    1. I didn’t come across it, so had to look it up now. It looks so great!! Never made it to that part of town. Wish I had had more time to spend. So much to see and do. Spent almost a week, but still didn’t cover it “all”.

Love to hear your comment :)
