When in Cape Town you kind of have to make it to Cape of Good Hope, even though there is not much to see there, and definitely not in the insanely bad weather we had. I have never been so soaked in my life, even my underwear was drenched. In the end it all became a matter of getting off the bus, take a snap, and get back inside. Check, been there! We did make out some animals in the heavy rain on the way out. Otherwise it is all about the ocean and rocky hills. At the cape there is a trail going up the hill. Had the weather been waaaay better, I would have hiked up for the views.
Cape of Good Hope was a stop on a day trip with African Eagle Day Tours. My guesthouse made the reservation, and I was very happy with the tour company. On the way down from Cape Town we followed the western coastline of the peninsula, passing bays and beaches like Camps Bay and Clifton – great scenery! At the harbour of the small fishing village of Hout Bay you have the option to go on a boat trip to Seal Island (I didn’t, I went for hot tea instead ๐ ). On the way back to Cape Town we drove through the eastern side of the peninsula, through Simon’s Town, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. One scheduled stop we didn’t do was theย Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. At that time it was still pouring down, and everyone on the bus said it was ok to pass on it, wanting to get home and out of the wet clothes.

Too bad the weather wasn’t cooperating, but it definitely made for some atmospheric scenery! I’ve never been to Cape Town, but it’s a place high on my list. I keep seeing/reading the most amazing things about it. Thanks for linking up with #farawayfiles
I LOVED Cape Town!! Only “bad” thing is you are very dependent on the weather. No reason to plan ahead as you’ll never know what you’re able to do until that morning.
It’s a shame the weather was so wet although I did enjoy having a giggle reading your vivid descriptions of it so thanks for that, Bea! My father loved sailing around the Cape of Good Hope as he’s a very keen sailor. I’d have to make this trip too no matter what the weather was like. Thanks for sharing on #FarawayFiles
Ha ha, love that you enjoy my misery ๐ With a father/daughter link, you have to go. I’m such a daddy’s girl ๐
What a shame you had terrible weather. David and I drove around the Cape of Good Hope last year on a stunning blue sky day. It was a perfect day trip from Cape Town. Did you ever get to Kirstenbosch? When the flowers are out in spring it is beautiful.
Lucky you! I’ve learned that the Cape weather is the boss ๐ No, never had time to “redo” the Kirstenbosch.
The cape looks awesome no matter the bad weather! Definitely need to go there some day ๐ #FarawayFiles
It would have been sooooo much better had the weather been better. I would have been ok with clouds, but the rain was insane.
Avoiding hoards of tourists always a winner!
It’s always the best ๐
It’s early Spring here, so the weather still a bit unpredictable. Much better in summer, though! The plus is that the strong Southeasterly wind eventyally blows away lingering clouds and pollution ๐
Yes, that’s what you get for travelling out of season, but then again I avoid the hoards of tourists ๐
Well, folks pray to sail past this cape in the distant past…guess the weather must be quite rough most times of the year!
Yes, doesn’t surprise me if it’s windy all the time.
Oh no!!! Pity the weather was so bad, but glad you still managed to see something. I guess all the rain and wind was just a reminder again of why it’s also known as the Cape of Storms! ๐
It is? I didn’t know. I’ve realised the weather dictates a lot here in Cape Town ๐ Planning ahead seems like a waste ๐
