The Lima Cathedral

Since the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist was next door to the Archbishop’s Palace in old Lima, I briefly swung by it as well. I must admit there wasn’t much to see, but I did fall in love with a couple of things – the beautiful ceiling, the just as magnificent main altar, and the lovely interior colours definitely caught my attention. Just love the blue hue! Another exceptional feature are the 14 chapels that line up on each side of the aisle, all having their own “theme” in form and colour.

More on Lima.

  1. Ooh love that ceiling! Really enjoyed reading all about your visit to Peru. Thanks for linking up to #MondayEscapes

    1. Love it too! How great! I have one place to still write about, Iquitos. So if you’d like to head for the Amazon Rainforest, keep an eye out 🙂

  2. I would love to do a DIY project to make some kind of eye-catching ceiling if I ever buy a house someday. But it would probably end up looking strange and ugly. I’ll just have to travel instead! #MondayEscapes

    1. I am thinking you would need a high ceiling, otherwise the room would feel very small, but I’d love to see what you come up with 🙂 I would love to turn a small church into a house 🙂 What a living room I would get!

  3. This post instantly caught my eye on #MondayEscapes as I used to live in Lima and have never been (or in fact seen! I think..) this cathedral. Lima is a wonderful city to explore with loads of hidden surprises and I’m so happy you found one to share, that brought back so many lovely memories!

    1. The cathedral is on Plaza Mayor, next to the Archbishop’s Palace. Hadn’t it been for me deciding to visit the latter, I wouldn’t have come across it. Happy to make to memories come flooding 🙂

  4. Now we missed this. Only walked on the outside. Because there was a feast day when we were there and the crowds were simply too difficult to get through!

Love to hear your comment :)
