Perfect, Peaceful Place

top budget hotel ollantaytambo sacred valley peru

I arrived late in the evening in Ollantaytambo, and left for Machu Picchu early in the morning. Pitch black at both times, so I had really no idea of what the village or the hostel looked like until I got back down. And as most times, not to toot my own horn, I had made an incredible choice 🙂 What a wonderful getaway! Walk a few blocks up one of the cobbled alleys from the main square, open the door, take a few steps down, and you’re ready to check in, which in my case didn’t happen, as the receptionist was more concerned about getting me to bed and so I’d be ready for the very early wakeup in the morning, to get on the train to Machu Picchu – here’s the key, this is your room, we’ll fix the rest tomorrow when you get back. Who said you can’t be efficient 🙂 The room was cozy with fresh flowers and 24 hours hot water access (even though I didn’t get the hang of how to work it, either boiling hot or freezing cold, just read the instructions carefully before getting in, and you’ll be fine 🙂 ). The property itself has a nice garden to relax in, quiet, with the sounds of a small artificial waterfall and resident guinea pigs only, view of the surrounding mountains, and a souvenir shop if you’re in the mood for that.

The hostel arranged train station pick-up, in Cusco, a two hours drive away. They also made sure I got back to Cusco after a few days. All in the luxury of a private car, nice!
