Santa Catalina Monastery

santa catalina monastery arequipa peru

This Arequipa complex is huge, with lots of streets, houses, rooms, hallways, and squares inside the monastery walls. Like a city within a city. You can spend several hours roaming around, discovering unusual artefacts. In the end, it got a tad too much. If you get tired, you can take a load off at the cozy cafe. Santa Catalina Monastery is a beautiful place, with different kinds of architectural features, all equally striking, but the most appealing one to me, the gorgeous red colour, against the blue sky. Stunning!

  1. You’re so right, Bea! The red walls against that blue sky looks incredible. Love that photo at the top. Thanks for sharing on #FarawayFiles

  2. I always like red combinations and I can tell that as I’m also an Architect! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. It was the best experience of my life! Norway is just amazing especially tromso! I’m hoping to come back again soon maybe this year end ..but probably visit oslo also next time! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. We’d love to get back to Peru! The last time we were there, we only covered Lima and Cusco (+Machu Picchu). Missed out on getting to Arequipa!

    1. I did the “whole” thing: Arequipa, Puno, Cusco, Ollantaytambo (Machu Picchu), Lima and Iquitos/the Amazon. Unfortunately decided not to do the Nazca Lines ๐Ÿ™

      1. Oh yeah we understand what you mean. We want to redo Peru next time minus Cusco and Machu Picchu since we’ve done it!

Love to hear your comment :)
