I Wanna Live in a Crater

pululahua crater quito ecuador

Or more specifically this crater. Pululahua Crater outside Quito. When viewed from the crater rim, as we came over the “hill”, it was all covered in clouds. After descending the steep roads down to the bottom of the caldera, I felt like entering a secret place. Like climbing into a cave with mountain walls and a cloud ceiling. It was just magical! And so quiet. We barely saw anyone, besides dogs and donkeys on the road. We stopped by one of the bigger farms, got some veggies and chatted to the people living there, who thought it was fun to have visitors all the way from Noruega 🙂 Apart from that we just drove around taking in the botanical reserve’s exquisite flora.

This was part of a road trip from Quito. The owner of the hostel I stayed at didn’t find anyone who was doing a tour of the things I wanted to see and at the time I was able to go, so she took me herself. Bless her! We had a lot of fun considering she didn’t speak much English, and I don’t speak much Spanish 🙂

  1. Wow, how magical is this place? We honeymooned in Costa Rica many years ago, and I was fascinated by the many active volcanoes there. But this, this looks incredible. How I’d love to stay in that hotel! x

  2. Oh my goodness, I really have to go to Ecuador one day. I’ve been to Peru and Brazil but would love to explore more of South America. These landscapes are amazing. Thanks for sharing on #FarawayFiles

    1. You’re gonna have a great time! All my Quito posts are out soon, and Galapagos is up next. Hopefully that will give you some ideas. I don’t know how to get to the crater by public transportation. We drove up. I assume there is a bus that can drop you off, but question is how you’ll get from the bus stop and down to bottom of the caldera. Walk? It’s gonna be a long one, but probably very nice. If you stay at the hostel, I bet they’ll pick you up somewhere.

        1. No worries! Let me know if I can help in any way. You’re gonna love the Galapagos as well!! Are you going on a cruise or doing day trips? And where are you basing yourself?

Love to hear your comment :)
