For Those Who Don’t Ski

And I am definitely one of those! Geilo is a well-known skiing destination in Norway, and hadn’t it been for my former employer throwing the Christmas party here, I most likely wouldn’t have ever set foot in this part of the world. But with the case being what it was, ending up at Vestlia was not the worst thing that could have happened. Instead of steering towards the slopes, you can head off to the spa, which boasts a very nice space with several relaxing options to enjoy. If you feel the need to burn off some of the delicious food they serve, the gym is an alternative. Truth needs to be told, the gym has seen better days. But it gets the job done. If doing nothing is your way of unwinding, you can just lounge with a book and a hot cuppa in one of the many very nicely decorated common rooms, which ambience kind of makes you wanna curl up under a blanket and chill. I can see from their website that there are several other things to entertain yourself with as well, but with the limited time I had I didn’t have the opportunity to try it all out. Doubt you’ll be bored. If outside activities besides skiing is something you’re looking for, the Geilo town centre is one kilometre away. I imagine a nice stroll, but when you have forgotten to bring your toothbrush and it seems like a long walk away, it is convenient that the hotel has stocked up. Had to buy one though. Shouldn’t it be part of the toiletries at a resort…?

  1. Sounds perfect to me a ski hotel with a spa and no skiing, I so want to visit a ski resort but am not at all bothered about skiing, thanks so much for linking up #MondayEscapes x

  2. Cross country skiing I like. My husband thinks of cross country skiing as a chore he had to endure at school, so he’s not keen. Downhill skiing I am never ever doing, and that’s that. I don;t care how fabulous the resorts are!

    1. Neither cross country nor downhill here. One is too boring (same experience as your husband) and the other one I’m too much of a chicken to do. If the resort is great, I am happy to kill time in other ways 🙂

  3. Shouldn’t it be part of the toiletries at a resort…? – is it ever actually ?. I dont see it most of the time . I am not sure of the reason though! …

Hope you had a great time .. i dont Ski either !

    1. I am thinking it would be very handy, considering it is “far” from a grocery store. Sometimes I’ve come across hotels providing them, but mostly budget ones, and come to think of it, it kind of varies from county to county… Not a problem for us who don’t ski to kill time here 🙂

  4. I’ve only been to one Norwegian ski resot, and I was sold. I loved the quiet of the place, compared with the Alps. Geilo’s on my hit-list! #MondayEscapes

    1. Where did you go? Yes, I bet it is quite different from the Alps 🙂 I’m not a ski bum, so I’ve never been there.

      1. Hey, you know that 1 week we booked was also our maiden ski. Heheh, obviously there are muscle groups for sure that we did not know could really be put to the test! 3 days was all we could last and then we reverted to being tourists for the balance of 4 days!

        1. 😀 I’m impressed, 3 days of skiing before having to take a rest. It is said that Norwegians are born with skis, and for many it is unheard of that I don’t like skiing 🙂 I’ll admit, if I were to put on skis now, it’d probably be more enjoyable than when I was a kid.

          1. Well, it was tough. But you see we were resilient and went on with it. We even did a night tobaganning down the mountain! But that was it….the legs simply went on strike after that! LOL
