Art Boutique Hotel in Yangon

So we didn’t get off to the best start, Merchant Hotel and I, as my airport pick-up never showed. Turned out there were car problems. A heads-up would have been great. But from there on and out we were on the same page. After getting a taxi from the airport I was welcomed with watermelon juice, and an early check-in as compensation. Later the Front Office Manager came to my room to say sorry for the missing driver. She also had with her the complementary fruit platter. Also got one the night before check-out. Didn’t say anything about that anywhere, so why I don’t know. Still very nice after a long day out, and refreshing to nibble on while packing. Since this is a hotel with focus on art, you’ll find it everywhere – in the room, hallway, lobby, and even a small gallery next to the breakfast room/restaurant. From the rooftop bar you get the best “art”, a view of the nearby Shwedagon Pagoda. In addition to the world famous pagoda the area surrounding the hotel is as local as you’ll get it, which to me is a treat. The staff I can’t rave enough about, always smiling and attentive. Come to realize it’s the way of the Myanmar people. So much than when stupid me don’t understand them the first time, and comes in hauling bottles of water, once again tells me all the water I’d like is complementary 🙂 Glad this is my hotel of choice for my return visit!

  1. Looks like a nicely designed hotel and you’re not the only person I’ve heard say how nice the people of Myanmar are. The hotel looks worth keeping in mind if I ever reach Myanmar. #wkendtravelinspiration

    1. Yes, but going taxi was not a problem. Fixed prices, pay to girls outside at taxi booth, and you get designated a driver. No scams and no haggling! What I like 🙂

Love to hear your comment :)
