A Pub, a Meat Pie, a Success!

After a delightful introduction to meat pies in Rotorua, New Zealand, I was dead set on having a meat pie on my next trip to London. And I usually get my way πŸ™‚ Just that it was on a day trip to wonderful Bath. The tourist office didn’t have any recommenda- tions, but they did have a flyer from a pub named The Raven of Bath, so on I went. The free public house is a few blocks outside the town centre, and catered to both locals and a couple of fellow tourists who had found their way there too. A quiet, low-key local pub – just up my alley. TheΒ Raven Ale Pie I went for was veeeery nice! The Raven ale and red onion gravy I chose to accompany it tasted a bit too much ale for my palate… In addition to serving me a great lunch, the pub had a small book sale – that is, you leave books you don’t need anymore on the bookshelf, the patron who find a book he/she likes takes the book and leaves a charity donation in the adjacent box. Super feature!

As said The Raven of Bath is a bit out of the way, but if you’re OK with a 5-10 min walk from the main streetsΒ you’re in for a treat.

  1. Now I really feel like I missed out, I can’t say I ate any meat pies in NZ even though it’s my kind of food. The one in the Raven looks mighty good to me!

    1. If we are distinguishing NZ from Aussie meat pie :), I have no idea ’cause I didn’t try one… But the NZ meat pie has one up on the English one πŸ™‚ But I take what I can get, because Down Under is so far away πŸ™‚

    1. πŸ˜€ Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live in England, otherwise I’d have meat pie for lunch and dinner πŸ™‚ No. Just wish I had brought some books to donate.

    1. So far I’ve only had meat pie twice, and I’ll agree the NZ one was a tad better. They were different kinds though. Since NZ is sooo far away, I’m happy to settle for UK pie πŸ™‚

Love to hear your comment :)
