My First Interactive Restaurant Experience

So this was the first, and so far only, time I’ve used TripAdvisor for restaurant recommendations. A friend often does – I’ve never thought about it, just used it for hotel reviews. But in my quest for a place to eat in Rotterdam I figured I’d try, and found this touch table restaurant, which I thought looked fun and different. And Izkaya is fun and different, but that’s more or less it – food was OK, but not as good as I had hoped and anticipated it to be. The place was kind of stylish, but impersonal – could it be there was only me and two others there…? But the cool part was cool. You order food and drinks from a menu projected onto the table, which makes it function as a touchscreen. And by tapping the Chef Cam you can watch food being prepared in the kitchen. When you’re ready to leave, you go through your order, hit pay, and a waiter comes to receive the actual payment. For a different ambiance you can change the tablecloth, a.k.a. the background image used on your table. Fun fact: this is an interactive restaurant that doesn’t have a website… – well, at least I couldn’t find it…

  1. Very quirky – sometimes it does seem the restaurants like this with the unusual experience isn’t actually as good at the food. But sounds a cool one to have tried. #citytripping

  2. Sounds like a really fun concept…but can see that style may come over substance – and taste. Thanks for linking to #citytripping

  3. Interesting! I’ve never heard of such a restaurant before. A touchscreen menu would come in very handy for me (I wouldn’t need to put my reading glasses on!). Being able to watch the chef preparing your food must be fun.

Love to hear your comment :)
